Since this is our first year in our new home for Christmas, I was so excited yet hesitant to decorate for this holiday. New spaces can often times intimidate me. We have more space compared to our previous home but currently have less furniture. We decided to sell most of our furniture before we moved and we’re slowly replacing it. Meanwhile, I’m still trying to decide if that was the smartest decision. But, either way, our Christmas decor came together beautifully. So for our 3rd holiday post, I’m bringing you along into our home as I share our Christmas decor. Melissa Creates joined in on the fun and even brought her flocked tree so we could see the space with not one, but two, trees! 

This year we put all of our efforts in our main living room since that’s where we spend most of our time. And here’s what I learned: Less is more and stick to what you love.  In our previous home, I used a lot of creams, green, and natural wood colors. I wanted a change this year, so all of the wood elements and brown tones headed outside to be used as our front porch Christmas decor. As for the inside, this year we stayed with the creams and greenery but added a pop of red here and there. 

By sticking to less is more, it wasn’t as overwhelming to decorate this space. And it truly did become our motto since the rest of the home (except for the outside) wasn’t decorated. I’m sure in the years to come, we’ll slowly add, but this worked for us this year.

When it came to styling the mantel, I created metal hoop wreaths inspired by Christina on the Daily to adorn the wall in a scattered pattern. They also framed my handmade shiplap sign. Building this sign a few weeks ago is one of my favorite parts about the mantel decor.

Greenery can be found throughout the decor through the use of garland and fresh tree needles placed together in bundles. I found the fresh greenery at my local Lowe’s for $5 a bundle (a large bundle at that)!

Then the stocking holders, stockings, and trees bring in the crisp white to the space. If you frequent the Bullseye Playground at Target, you’ll recognize the house stocking holders. And those gold and cream stockings? Clearance from West Elm last year and they even give you a little jingle when you shake them. 

The flocked trees brighten the space with a Christmas glow. I must say, I’ve never had a flocked tree before and I should have tried one sooner! Both trees are decorated with black and white gingham ribbon, additional white shimmery ribbon, pops of red berries, and white and silver ornaments.

To give it a little more depth and greenery, I added the tree needles throughout.  I went with my motto, less in more, and I think they turned out perfectly for this space. Don’t get me wrong, I love a tree fully decorated, but there’s something about the simplicity of these that I love!

These are the few ways that I decorated my living room, and more specifically my mantel area, this holiday season. I was really good about not purchasing decor items just because it was pretty or on sale. Yes, I’m guilty of both. I hope this inspires you to decorate with what you truly enjoy, to try less is more, and to use items you already have but in a different way.
