Creating an organized and relaxed guest bedroom

Last week I shared the beginning stages of transforming our guest bedroom. It all started because of the bold yellow and burgundy that greeted us every time we walked down the hallway. But, more importantly, it’s for all of our friends and family members traveling to spend quality time with us. When we made the decision a little over 5 years ago to move to Florida, it also meant we were moving 15 hours away from some of our family. Organizing this space is our gift to them as they make the long trip to come visit us and our little one. I have to admit though, we’re also enjoying the new view and look of this space.

Decorating this guest bedroom was an absolute joy! I’m excited to share with you how you can do the same in a single weekend while staying on budget! Need a little motivation that anything is possible? Just take a look at this before and after:

This was my goal for the space: create a room where any guest can relax through comfort, peace of mind, and staying organized throughout their stay. With that thought in mind, I headed to my local Cost Plus World Market here in Sanford and left with decor pieces to make this relaxing guest room a reality. Here’s a closer look at all the details that went into the space and how it all came together so you can do the same.

I wanted to start with helping the guests get organized and situated as soon as they arrive. This way they can focus on getting in full vacation mode that much sooner. I placed a white ceramic pedestal trinket dish on the bedside table as the go to spot for guests to place their keys, jewelry, lip balm, and anything else that needs to come out of their pockets. Plus, it will help keep the table tidy for more important things like a cell phone and a glass of water.

The easy part about luggage is unpacking or finding a spot in the room for the clothing. The hard part arises when guests need a place to separate clean clothes from dirty clothes throughout their stay. We’ll help solve that problem by providing our guests  with their very own hamper. By adding a bag in the hamper, this will allow our guests to toss in their dirty clothes and lift the bag out at the end of their trip and place in their suitcase. It’s organized, easy, and stress free! Plus, it adds to the decor of the bedroom. You can find several hamper styles to meet your needs here!

Depending on the season when our guests arrive, they may have hats, scarves, jackets, and other accessories. I love the idea of using this mirrored wooden sconce to hang these accessories on so that they have a go-to space. And with it being mirrored, guests can check their hair and makeup as they walk out of the bedroom for a day of fun! Talk about staying organized during a vacation!

I love how the decor pieces shown so far help organize our guests during their stay.  I also wanted an organized space that creates a calming and relaxed environment. As soon as our guests walk in the room and place their bags down, they’ll be greeted with a surprise. I adorned this classic tray with  my favorite book, The Year of Cozy, and my go to Eucalyptus and Mint Candle. It’s a sure sign to guests to kick their shoes off, stay awhile, and simply relax. Who knows, maybe we’ll create something together out of The Year of Cozy.

Then there’s my obsession with fresh flowers. I truly believe every room, especially the guest room, deserves fresh flowers. The day guests arrive, I run out to my local farmer’s market or local grocery to grab a few. These bottle vases in the wooden holder create such a stunning look with fresh flowers. The bedside table is the perfect spot for them!

Guests rooms are meant to be enjoyed and treated as a home away from home. For this very reason, I added pictures in the frames from past adventures with the current guests. How amazing is it for the guests to walk in and be greeted with photos of all of us together? It has to be one of my favorite features in the room. These adorable frames were a great find at my local Cost Plus World Market store. I’ve included similar ones at the end of the post.

I’m all about creating a cozy space through the use of extra pillows, blankets, and candles. I don’t want to leave guests wondering where any of these are, so I’ll place a few pillows and blankets in a tote basket. By placing it next to the bedside table, it’s easily accessible and the guests will know they can help themselves to the items. As for the candles, I have the perfect spot for them on top of these wood candleholders on the dresser.

Lastly, these unbelievably gorgeous towels will be left in the room for guests to use throughout their stay. Have you ever seen such stunning towels? And let me tell you, they’re equally as soft. I just might have to keep an eye out and make sure they don’t accidentally end up in a suitcase. They’re that cozy!

If you need more than decor in your guest bedroom, here are some great solutions for small space furniture. All of these items were found at Cost Plus World Market in one trip and placed or hung in under an hour once we arrived home. The paint color alone was a huge change, but these decor pieces turned this space from a normal room into a welcoming home for guests. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate and spoil our loved ones. They’ll be traveling hours to come spend time with us.

I’m trying really hard not to move into this room myself! What was a room we typically avoided by shutting the door, is now a room we can’t get enough of!
