Small Changes in our Outdoor Space Created Big Results

Happy Monday my friends. It was such a quick weekend but I feel like we got a lot done around the house. Thank goodness! It was also a busy weekend with us attending not one, but two, gender reveal parties for some of our dearest friends. When we were able to finally relax Sunday afternoon, we did so by enjoying our new space on part of our patio. It’s pretty much the only area of our home that feels complete. We have so many projects going on! With that said, I’m excited to share with you how I quickly made a few small changes in this outdoor space that gave us big results.

A few weeks ago I posted on my Instagram about the outdoor rug that I scored for $50. Thank you Target outdoor clearance. This rug easily became the inspiration for the rest of the space.

Our bench finally arrived a few days after purchasing our rug. Right away I placed the outdoor tables next to the bench and immediately didn’t like the color. The yellow worked perfectly for the patio space at our prior home but certainly not working for our new space. I flipped these tables once before by giving them a pop of color. Therefore, I knew I could do it again!

Before I could give them a fresh coat of paint, I sprayed them down with cleaner, scrubbed all the dirt off and any paint that was flaking off, and then hosed them down. I then let them completely dry before spray painting three coats of emerald green. I couldn’t be happier with the color! The spray paint itself is labeled as heavy duty, weather resistant, and a rust preventive. I knew this product would outlast the harshness of the outdoor environment.

Once the tables were completely dry, I moved them into the new space and added plants in the corners also. I didn’t know I would like this green this much but I’m obsessed!

These two changes alone made the biggest difference in our patio space. Who knew that a little spray paint and potted plants could go so far. Just take a look at the before and after:

With there being a small amount of green in the rug, the tables help bring the entire area all together beautifully. I was hesitant at first as I started spray painting the tables but so glad I didn’t stop and pick a different color. We seriously hang out here every morning as I sip my coffee and Oliver plays with his toys. The perfect spot to relax.

Sometimes you just have to make small changes to get big results in a space. In our case it was simply changing the color of the side tables and adding two plants. At the end of the day it’s just paint. If it doesn’t turn out they way you imagined, you can always try a different color.

What do you think about my color scheme for this corner of the patio? Navy seems to be popping up a lot this season and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon. Create a space you love by designing and decorating a few pieces at a time. Enjoy the process and give yourself grace. I would love to help if you have any questions or if you’re having a creative block.
