You guys. Time for some real talk. We’ve been in our new home for a little over a month now. We’re still moving furniture around, all of our wall decor needs to be placed and hung, and there are two boxes left that I’m totally avoiding. But through it all I still make sure to have fresh flowers displayed in our home. Either in the kitchen, the office, or in the breakfast nook. No matter the season, there are plenty of seasonal flowers to choose from to brighten your home. Summer has my heart when it comes to flowers because a few of my favorites bloom during this season. But I won’t keep them to myself! Here are a few summer flowers that flourish during this hot and rainy season and bring the sunshine to your home as a flower arrangement.
Dahlias are at the top of my list of favorite flowers. They come in a variety of stunning colors and also vary in size. When placed in water with a floral preservative, dahlias will last around 5-7 days. Can you imagine having these in your guest room to greet your friends and family as they arrive?
I’ll never forget going to a local nursery and seeing an entire row of purple and white cosmos blooming. That’s when they truly caught my attention with their beauty. When creating an arrangement for your home, cosmos last 4 to 6 days in a vase with floral preservatives BUT they have multiple blooms. So although the actual flower may not last very long, new ones will bloom throughout the week.
Zinnias remind me of Dahlias just a smaller, flatter version. They also like to show off by coming in a variety of bright colors. Zinnias are known for lasting a little longer than other flowers. With a vase life of 7-10 days, you’ll be so glad you put them on display.
Snapdragons were my mom’s favorite flower to plant every summer growing up. Have you ever squeezed the flower? Try it next time. You’ll see where the term snapdragon comes from. I’ve never thought about creating a flower arrangement with them. but oh my, are they gorgeous when grouped together. They will last you about 7-10 days.
Lilies are also a well known flower and perfect for tall vases. You’ll be able to smell them as soon as you walk into the room. Lilies typically have a vase life of at least 10 days.
At some point you’ve probably received roses or bought fresh ones to display in your home. My favorite rose is the Colette Rose. This type or rose has a large bloom and has several layers of petals. So dreamy! The down side to roses is that they last 3-6 days.
I can’t think of a better way to treat yourself on Friday by getting fresh flowers for your home. Especially if it’s one of the summer flowers featured in today’s Fresh Flower Friday post. Which one was your favorite? It’s okay, I have more than one favorite too. Enjoy your weekend.
Let’s stay in touch!
