Looking for your new favorite paint brand? Read my full Clare paint review for all the pros and cons of Clare paint company.
A few years back when I was kicking off the One Room Challenge with our guest bathroom,I received a message from Nicole Gibbons. I was just a few days into the challenge when I read her note:
“Hi Liz! I just launched a new paint brand called Clare Paint! We’re a direct to consumer paint company offering a much easier and more inspiring way to shop for paint.”
I didn’t even finish reading the message before I was heading over to the Clare paint Instagram feed to see this new paint company. If you’ve been around here for even just a little while, you know paint is my solution for everything home-related. . . well, almost everything. But my point is, my friends, there was a NEW PAINT company in town and I was very excited about it!
Since then, I’ve used Clare Paint in our guest bathroom, with Oliver’s modern wall makeover and interior doors in my home. And here’s why you need to give Clare Paint a try in your own home: it’s paint shopping simplified. Nicole saw where the paint shopping experience could be better and that’s exactly what she did.
These days, Clare paint has become really well-known and is quickly rising up the ranks of popular paint companies thanks to its gorgeous colors, high-quality paint and simple home delivery model.
But is Clare paint right for your home? Keep reading for my full Clare paint review.
Clare is an online paint company that sells water-based, zero-VOC paints in a wide variety of colors for interior and exterior use. The paints are Greenguard Gold Certified, which means they are free of toxic air contaminants and pollutants. They’re also made without hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), toxic air contaminants (TACs), or any EPA chemicals of concern.
Clare paints are also self-priming, washable, durable, 100% acrylic, and have uniform coverage. The company offers a curated palette of colors and their online paint shopping experience includes tools like a color-selecting quiz, paint needs calculator, and peel-and-stick swatches.
Clare paints are available in quart-sized containers, and the company also offers reusable, repositionable swatches that you can stick to the wall to see how the color will look on different walls with different lighting.
One of my favorite things about shopping with Clare paint is their curated collection of paint colors.
How many times have you gone to a paint or home improvement store to pick out a paint color and leave with 20 different variations of the color you’re looking for? If you’ve ever tried to choose a white paint color then you absolutely know what I’m talking about, right?! We’ve all been there and it’s always been this way: running back and forth between home and the store to find the perfect paint color.
With Clare, they offer about 75 carefully curated timeless colors to choose from online. Need the perfect white with a hint of cream? Got it! Looking for that gray that doesn’t pull any other hues? Clare has that too.
What does this mean for you? Time saved trying to pick out the perfect color because Clare has already done all the work for you. Instead of 1000s of paint colors to choose from, you get fewer than 100 of the best colors so you can make paint choices more quickly and with less stress.
So, it’s great that you can view the paint colors online, but how in the world do I know what the colors will look like in my home? That’s what you’re thinking, right? Once again, Nicole has thought of everything. First, you can take the Clare Color Genius to receive a personalized color recommendation based on your preferences. Then with a few clicks of your mouse, you can have paint color swatches delivered right to your front door.
These swatches are peel and stick, which allow you to move them around your home and see them in different lighting. You don’t even have to get out a single paintbrush to test a color and clean-up is a breeze: just peel.
My second most favorite thing besides Clare paint itself: the excitement of getting a package delivered. And when that and paint collide, I’m doing a happy dance on delivery day. Yes, my friends, this means Clare Paint is delivered to your front door!
Do you see what Clare has done for all of us? We never have to leave the comfort of our home to find that perfect shade of paint. Rain, snow, blistering heat? You don’t have to battle it because you’ll have paint arrive safely in this box that screams time to paint!
Since this was my first experience having paint delivered, I was really curious with how the paint would be packaged. It arrived in a box created specifically for the paint cans and even had clips on the cans so paint spilling wouldn’t even be an option.
If you don’t already have them, you’ll need paint supplies to begin and complete your project. But Clare has solved that for you too! When you order your paint, you’re also able to order any of the paint supplies you’ll need. I’m talking about paint trays, roller, extension polls, paintbrushes, plastic drop cloth, or just order the 5-Piece Paint Kit.
Just an FYI, every shipment comes with a paint stick, paint can opener and an amazing paint guide that covers everything from beginning to end.
So far we know that Clare paint has the consumer in mind with saving time and providing a unique experience. But what about the quality? I can say after two successful home projects, Clare Paint is by far some of the best paint I’ve used.
Because I tend to do a lot of painting in my home, I’m always looking for a non-toxic paint that won’t make my home smell for days on end. Clare paint is just that!
This ultra-premium paint is also Zero VOC and GREENGUARD Gold Certified. What does this mean for you? It means this paint has low chemical emissions. I certainly noticed this the second I started painting our guest bathroom. Being in a smaller space, there wasn’t that overwhelming smell of paint which was so important to me and with having a little one running around – especially when it came to painting his room as well.
It’s hard to do a Clare paint review without talking about a few of my favorite colors! I’ve honestly loved every color I’ve tried in my home so far – they’re just really gorgeous, rich colors that had a wonderful bold pop to my home. Even their white paint colors somehow seem extra special.
Whipped is a gorgeous warm white paint color that keeps a room from feeling cold but also won’t skew yellow on the wall. We used this color for our guest bathroom (pictured below) and also in my son’s room. This is a great color if you have a north-facing room and want a white paint that will warm the space up.
Another favorite Clare paint color is Irony, a dark blue-gray color that we used for our guest bathroom interior door pictured above. In cooler light this color looks almost like a slate blue. In warmer light it will look like a true charcoal gray. Either way – it’s beautiful!
Current Mood might be the best Clare Paint color ever. This gorgeous deep green color reminds me of a cooler olive green. It won’t risk looking blue or even teal on the wall but also doesn’t lean toward yellow. It’s really just the perfect neutral dark green paint color. We used this color on my son’s accent wall in his room as a baby and it’s still in the room to this day!
Ever since I first used and started talking about Clare Paint, I’ve gotten a ton of questions about this brand. Read below for some of my top FAQs.
The quality of Clare Paint is right up there with the big paint brands like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams! All of their colors come with primer built-in and they provide really good coverage over any existing wall color. I’ve found that I never need more than two coats of paint when working with Clare paint – even if I don’t use a separate primer first!
As I mentioned above, Clare paint comes as paint and primer in one. I’ve found it works great on its own without extra primer, but if you’re covering a stubborn color like a very bright or very dark wall color, then it never hurts to use primer first!
It’s pretty much impossible to find a paint without any smell whatsoever, but Clare Paint comes really close. This low-VOC paint doesn’t emit many strong odors. Even when I have been painting in small, closed-in spaces like our guest bathroom I wasn’t bothered by the smell.
Clare’s interior paints are dry to the touch in about 30 minutes to an hour. Clare’s exterior paints are dry to the touch in 1–2 hours. But no matter what kind of paint you’re using, it’s ideal to wait at least 4–6 hours before applying a second coat.
Yes, you can! Clare paint can be used on cabinets and furniture, just like any other paint brand. Clare recommends using their trim paint for furniture because it’s formulated for high-traffic areas and is more likely to stand up well to being touched regularly. Clare trim paint also has a glossier sheen than their wall paint, which is perfect for cabinets.
I absolutely love painting with Clare paint colors. They are beautiful, rich and go on seamlessly. And I love that they are safe for my family and less likely to fill my home with paint fumes.
Plus, when this is Clare’s mission, I know this is a business I’ll support time and time again as I turn my house into a home : We’re on a mission to make paint shopping easier and more inspiring, so you can create a home you love.
I totally understand if you want to go ahead and leave this post to head on over to Clare (if you haven’t done so already). Because I’m about to do the same to order a few samples. I have a wish list of colors I want to use in our home in 2019 and can’t wait to finalize a few things. If you’re just as excited as I am about Clare, let me know in the comments below which color you’ll be trying in your home!

[…] I’ve known about Clare Paint, but never personally tried it. I know a few blog friends of mine have and they’ve loved it. The coolest part to me is that they send you paint samples that are actual stickers. So you can move it around your house instead of painting a million swatches. Really wish I did this with my white walls instead of the hot mess I created with swatches (and the swift color choice I don’t 100% love). Image via Within The Grove […]
