Vintage Secretary Desk Makeover Ideas

There are many days that I research new home decor ideas with no success.  There are also days when a vision and new project falls into my lap with no effort on my end. That happened recently as I was casually scrolling through Facebook when this image by The Golden Sycamore appeared in my timeline:

Vintage secretary desk by The Golden Sycamore

Oh my word.  I have never fallen so hard for a secretary desk.  To my own surprise, I just had to have one after seeing this completed project.  That was two weeks ago.  Since then I have been stalking Craigslist, local online and Facebook furniture groups, and local thrift stores to find my gem of a desk to flip myself. There are plenty available but I’m looking for that amazing steal of a deal.

While I’m waiting for the perfect piece to fall into my DIY hands, here are a few of my favorite secretary desk makeovers to hopefully inspire you also!

Secretary desk by The Lettered Cottage

The Lettered Cottage did an amazing job of painting this secretary desk in a deep mint color to place in her dining room.  The styling of the vintage desk brings it all together!

Vintage Secretary Desk Makeover by Past, Present, and Patina

Rather than going with a mint or light blue color on the outside, Past, Present, and Patina added a pop of duck egg blue to the inside.  It certainly added a beautiful touch to the piece.

The Golden Sycamore flips a vintage secretary desk

We’re back to the first secretary desk I spotted that gave me the itch to flip one myself.  The Golden Sycamore decided on Annie Sloan Duck Egg for the outside with a crisp white on the inside.  I love this look too!

Coastal secretary desk by Adventures in Decorating

Adventures in Decorating gave this secretary desk a makeover from a dark brown to this vibrant white inside and out.  I love the small details she added by changing the handles and adding wording to the piece.

Secretary Hutch flip by Balancing Beauty and Bedlam

I was wonderfully shocked to see how Balancing Beauty and Bedlam flipped this $5 yard sale find.  They took this piece of furniture apart, sanded it, painted it, and did much more to make this secretary desk look brand new!

You might be thinking where in the world will I be placing my secretary desk?  I have the perfect spot in my living room!  I’m also hoping it will bring texture and bright light to the space. I truly can’t wait!  Until then, we all have to wait to see the reveal until I can get my hands on one.  This is becoming my most patient DIY home project to date!  Happy Friday Eve!
