We’re beyond excited to be a part of the One Room Challenge as guest participants. This has been on our home bucket list for a few years now and finally the timing was right for us to participate. Over the next six weeks we’ll be giving our outdated guest bathroom the attention that it deserves. . . finally. We’re taking it down to the studs and creating an entirely new space. We hope you enjoy watching the process just as much as we enjoy creating a new space.

I truly can’t believe that this moment is here and that it’s finally happening. Today starts week 1 of the One Room Challenge. I decided a few months ago I would be participating as a guest for the fall challenge. This has been a huge goal of mine ever since I started following along with the ORC a few years ago. It never seemed obtainable unless we hired someone to do the work for us. But remember, that was a few years ago. Like I said in this post, we’re now seasoned YouTube tutorial watchers and can now DIY just about anything.

One Room Challenge Guest Participant

Before I get too far ahead, some of you may not know about the One Room Challenge . It’s a 6 week event that takes place in the fall and spring. There are two different parts to it: 20 featured designers and guest participants. The featured designers will be posting updates every Wednesday while the guest participants, like myself, will be posting every Thursday. Each week we’ll link up to share photos and progress as we transform a space. Click here to see this week’s links.

The Before

Week 1 of the One Room Challenge - Renovating our Guest Bathroom

For our very first One Room Challenge, we’ll be transforming our guest bathroom. This bathroom is the one Oliver uses, plus any guests that come to visit. Truth zone: we haven’t touched a single design element in this bathroom since purchasing our home a year ago. So, enjoy this flashback to 1993 in all it’s bathroom glory. I’m talking about the scallop sink, peeling wallpaper, 90’s lighting, and a vanity that probably can’t even be saved with a little paint.

Guest Bathroom Before (1 of 8)

I think we knew this would be our first major renovation for our home which is why we didn’t even paint the walls. The fun part about this project, is that it’s our biggest DIY remodel ever. Sure, we may know a thing or two about paint, building or flipping a piece of furniture and other DIY projects. But ripping a bathroom down to the bare bones, trying tile for the first time, and even building a custom vanity? Nope, we’ve never tried it. That is until now. The only thing that will be staying is the tub and even that will be resurfaced.

Guest Bathroom Before

Our goal for the guest bathroom is to create a modern space that has both of our personalities mixed in. A bathroom that Oliver can grow into and one that our guests will enjoy. You’re also bound to see our signature color, navy, incorporated in some way. We do have a few bold surprises planned that we’re beyond excited to see come to life and to share with you.

Next week I’ll be revealing our guest bathroom design board so you can have a better visual of this space and where we’re headed. And of course our current progress within the renovation. Until then, we’re having our official demo day this weekend. You can follow along on Instagram Stories as I give you a behind the scenes look of the renovation progress of our guest bathroom.
