This past holiday season, Ryan and I were thinking of what we could gift to Oliver for Christmas. Being 15 months old, we still aren’t to the point to where he’s asking for anything. Since we still have the freedom to “surprise” him, that’s when we decided to give his playroom a much needed makeover. We want to create a space where he can play, learn, and grow with his surroundings. Needless to say, this has turned from a Christmas present into our first project of 2018. Once we started one thing, it turned into what seems like 20 other projects. Clearly, as you can see in the picture below, Oliver is thrilled for this makeover!
The walls looked gray but when you got a close up look, splotches of blue and pink were coming through the gray paint due to only one coat being painted by the previous owner. Stickers adorned the back of the door (thank goodness for Goo Gone) and it basically became a dumping ground for Oliver’s toys. It was turning into a hot mess and not a functional playroom. With my education degree and 8 years of teaching kindergarten and 1st grade, I’m thrilled to turn this into not only a playroom, but a room for Oliver to explore and learn.
We’re only in the beginning stages of installing wainscoting and painting the room. If you’ve been following along on my Instagram stories, you’ve seen the behind the scenes process so far! And, oh boy, has it been a long, fun process. It’s taking a little longer due to cutting costs by building on our own versus buying it already made. I’ll have a post just on that soon! Meanwhile, enjoy our design board of what we have planned so far in the playroom. We’ll be adding more as we figure out exactly what we want to add to create a Lost Boys theme from Peter Pan. Because, what little one, ever wants to grow up?
So, that’s our current playroom and how we plan to flip it these next couple of weeks! Enjoy a few more before images of this space because soon it will look completely different. Keep an eye out for my next post. We’ll be revealing the kitchen, FINALLY. Chat soon, my friend!
Let’s keep in touch!
