Finally Starting on our Master Bedroom

This is the first time we’re showing you a glimpse inside our master bedroom. Only because, well, there really wasn’t anything to show before. We moved in with a bed frame, bedding that has since been replaced, and a dresser that wasn’t meant to go in our room (and is still there). We started focusing on other parts of our home and neglected our bedroom. Sadly, this is what a lot of us do! We figured that guests really won’t see the master bedroom compared to the main living areas of our home. Which also means we started to tackle the main areas of the home first.

But guys, I’m here to tell you that we also deserve a relaxing place to escape to at the end of the day. So, I’m making it my mission to focus on our master bedroom each week (even if it’s little changes) to finally piece this room together.

Let me back up just a little! Although we haven’t done anything with the decor, our bedroom has seen BIG changes. We ripped down parts of the wall, replaced the flooring, and painted the whole room white. Here’s where we started:

We decided to tear down the ledge that hung out over our bed. Let me rephrase, right over our heads. We tore it down for two reasons: dust and spiders. That’s the only thing that would get up there and I’m not okay with either one above my head while I’m sleeping. I’m so proud of Ryan doing this himself! At the time, I entertained our 8 month old and he got to work. I’m pretty impressed if I do say so myself.

Then there’s the flooring. The flooring in our bedroom had several pieces missing in the corners when we moved in and was the first project we tackled. We researched and debated for weeks what to place in this room for the flooring. So much that I even wrote a blog post, Pros and Cons of Laminate, Tile, and Vinyl Flooring, to hopefully help others decide. We ended up going with NuCore, which are luxury vinyl planks. Months later we’re still loving them! It also helped to finalize the decision on these based on the color. We couldn’t find this color in any other material that was also within our budget.

For the first time, we decided to go with white as the new paint color throughout the room. We really wanted to brighten the room with all of the natural light that pours into this space as much as possible. We plan on mixing in a lot of coastal blues and green through the use of houseplants.

Our rug was the first pop of blue that made an appearance in our room and I’m obsessed with it! After seeing it on Target’s website, I purchased it without ever looking back. Which is 100% not how I usually buy things. I’m a visual person and have to see it, touch it, and visualize it in our space, And yes, in case you’re wondering, that’s also why it takes forever to make a decision around here!

Roman shades, bedside tables, and lamps were finally added and oh my, did this room start to feel cozy. I’ll be sharing a post soon on the roman shades because I’m kicking myself for not using this style shade sooner! I’d also love to show you a design board of our master bedroom plans, but the truth is, we’re kind of figuring this space out as we go. So there isn’t one. Once we add pillows, decor, different furniture, and other features, I’ll make sure to keep you guys updated.

But for now, make sure to follow along over on Instagram for a behind the scenes look. We’re always having fun turning our house into a home and taking you along for the ride. Alright, my friends, until next time! And as always, thank you for visiting our blog. It means more than you know!

Where is the bed frame from? It’s beautiful!

Which white paint did you go with? Does it feel like it flows nicely with the Seattle Grey in the rest of the House?

Hi Lauren! We went with Pure White. Since our baseboards and trim are Extra White, we wanted something a little warmer. This did the trick! And it does flow very well with the Seattle.
