Home Project // Using Color in My Master Bedroom

I was so excited when I recently shared with you my new favorite home decor book, Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color by Moll Anderson. Today I’m thrilled to show you what I’ve done to my master bedroom since implementing what I learned in Moll’s book. And to top it off, launch day was March 14th. You can officially purchase this book at your local Target to discover your very own color story.

I showed you how I discovered my color story and told you all about Moll Anderson through my post, Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color by Moll Anderson Book Launch. As a refresher, Moll is an accomplished television and radio host, author, interior designer, life stylist, and advocate for women and children. Amazing, right?!

I discovered my color story by answering multiple questions within the journal pages. One thing that I learned from the book is that you’re born into your parent’s color story. You have to dig deep, analyze, and reflect on your own life to discover your own story.

I quickly realized that my color story consisted of neutrals mixed with pops of green and blue. This color scheme instantly makes me feel like I should be living on a tropical island somewhere with those colors playing such a big roll in my life! Since I can’t just skip town to live on an island full time, I decided to bring the color scheme into an area of my home that I consider an oasis: my bedroom. Just take a look at the before and after:

I’m thrilled with the results! It feels as if the entire room is filled with more natural light after decorating. I instantly wanted to spend all day in my bedroom reading, napping, and even getting some work done. It has definitely transformed the room and my mood when I walk in. Thanks to Moll and her inspirational advice on interior design changes, I realize that adding color to every aspect of life is a great thing! Exactly how did I do it? Let me show you.

I already had a blue accent wall in my room which is one way you can start small to add color. Don’t paint an entire room a color. Instead just paint one wall for a big impact and it’s budget friendly.

Pops of greenery throughout my home is a must. And no wonder, because Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color by Moll Anderson informed me that greenery allows a person to focus, relax, reduce stress, and gives a sense of balance.

I quickly realized after reading the book, that my bedroom lacked fresh greenery and flowers. I had to immediately change that! My fiddle leaf fig that has actually thrived in another part of my home, made it’s way to sit in front of my accent wall. The green color of the plant stands out so much against the blue wall.

I then wanted to give a pop of color right when you walk into the bedroom. I placed a palm leaf from my yard in a vibrant blue vase. Can we just stop and talk about how you can find beautiful greenery in your yard and how gorgeous this vase is!? I’m smitten! I knew I wanted a vase like this after learning from Moll that glass vases that are transparent play with sunlight in a fun way. As you can tell, it help brighten up the space!

As part of Moll’s Fearless Five ways to decorate with color, I added fresh white roses to a blue and white chevron vase. This way I’m also incorporating a neutral color in my design. I’m almost positive this decor piece might be an umbrella stand, but I love using it as a vase!

Also, on my dresser I have a tray with natural wood elements, metallics, and blues mixed in with a candle placed in the center. Sometimes simplicity with color speaks volumes!

This wall between the windows has always been an awkward space in my bedroom. I never wanted to take away from the long curtains by placing something on the middle wall, but now after learning new design tips, this canvas works perfectly. It personalizes the space by tying in my love of greenery while using greens and blues within the design.

Decorative touches were also added here and there. Along with blue knobs on my closet doors, I draped a blue blanket along the bottom of my bed, added a decorative pillow with a vibrant blue pattern, and placed a blue plate on my bedside table for my jewelry. I learned from Moll that pillows are one of the quickest and easiest ways to add pops of color, visual interest, and texture to any space in your home.

As if that wasn’t enough, my color story came to life when I went shopping recently. Was I looking for a dress? No, not at all. But this dress. This gorgeous dress had me gasping as soon as I saw it. I normally go for solid black or navy dresses but not anymore! My color story has expanded past home decor.

My color story of using blues, greens, and neutrals brings a balance of healthy energy, a soothing and relaxing atmosphere, and a look that’s timeless. Are you ready to discover your color story, colors that compliment each other, and how to use Moll’s Fearless Five? I know there’s a really great chance you’re inspired right now, so it’s time to grab your own copy! You’ll fall in love the second you start reading Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color by Moll Anderson.

We got the call that the pool build is starting! W We got the call that the pool build is starting! Which had me scrambling to dig up all the plants that were in the way in an effort to save them. Literally down to the last second before the crew showed up. Exciting day but you know what’s even more exciting? Knowing the next crew will officially be breaking ground with the excavation phase of the build.
This time of year is full of organizing and purgin This time of year is full of organizing and purging to bring spaces back to life. But sometimes all a space needs to feel refreshed is, well, a refresh and a little attention. Your number one requested space was the living room. So I gave mine a refresh with some unique and gorgeous finds from @homesense_us . I found a few fun pots for my houseplants, a gorgeous magnifying glass, and a few other items for our coffee table and couch.

I never know what I’m going to find when I walk into Homesense since it’s always rotating with amazing finds. But I do know I’ll walk out with a few new favorites for my home at affordable prices. If you haven’t yet, I urge you to check and see if you have a Homesense near you! #DiscoverHomesense #HomesensePartner

We can be one of our biggest cheerleaders, but together we’re going to do big things. Go ahead and write down a big, small and a few in-between projects you want to get done this year in your home. Kicking it off with intention and that reminder that we can do this. Ready to get started?! Let me know in the comments the first project you want to tackle!
We finally got the Christmas/winter edition of the We finally got the Christmas/winter edition of the window projection up and running! It was a hit for Halloween and just as fun for this time of year as well. I built frames wrapped with a plastic drop cloth but you can also secure the drop cloth over the windows using command strips. The videos are from @atmosfx and we use a mini projector to play them on the screen. Place a Bluetooth speaker outside and you’re in business! Such a fun addition this time of year for the exterior of your home.
It’s the last little bit of the demo we needed t It’s the last little bit of the demo we needed to do in order to give the green light for the pool to start. And 2,456 pavers later, it’s done! This was exhausting but worth the money we saved doing it ourselves. And why remove them? We’re using a different stone around the pool and we want it to be cohesive up to the house. Don’t worry, someone got one heck of a deal on these pavers, we made a little money, and someone else got them out of our driveway. I’d say that’s a win-win. Stayed tuned for the entire pool process as we enter 2023. It’s going to be pretty exciting to watch!
Our patio space has served us so well over the yea Our patio space has served us so well over the years and now it’s time for a change because we’re getting a POOL!! Sharing this with you makes it even more real because just a year ago I would have told you it isn’t in the cards for us. We’ll be breaking ground soon but first we have to remove the screen enclosure. Spoiler: we won’t be putting one back up around the pool. It has already made the biggest difference visually and SO much natural light pours into our home now with it gone. It’s going to be so exciting seeing this all unfold so stay tuned! Up next: removing the pavers.
This holiday season we were able to travel to my h This holiday season we were able to travel to my hometown for the first time in awhile. We were greeted by the most beautiful sunset on the beach. Fast forward to this week as I headed to @homesense_us for some holiday shopping, and I ended up finding a few pieces for our home that remind me of that core memory on the beach. The beautiful wicker bench caught my eye first followed by the comforter and toss pillows. Everything at amazing price points while not sacrificing style and quality. #HomesensePartner

Mixing a thrill of a find with a core memory, I guarantee you'll fall in love with your home even more as you go to decorate. Decorating your home isn't grasping on to the newest trend or what you think others would do. It's what YOU want to do. And sometimes that's based on an emotional connection. Oh, the stories your spaces will be able to tell as you decorate each one. Start with seeing if there’s a @homesense_us near you! #DiscoverHomesense #HomesenseSarasota
